Congratulations to Tembeka Sineke on winning the Best Oral Presentation at the 2016 Public Health Association of South Africa conference. Her presentation was titled "Poorer health-related quality of life among patients who report adverse events while on treatment for drug-resistant TB in Johannesburg, South Africa". HE2RO Presenting at AIDS 2016

Same-Day HIV Treatment Improves Health Outcomes

The results of a clinical trial, run by Boston University with support from HE2RO, show that same-day initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV patients in South Africa led to a higher proportion of people starting treatment and to better health outcomes. The study was led by Sydney Rosen, a BU Research Professor and Director of HE2RO. A short video and further information can be seen 

Presentation at the Southern African HIV Clinicians Society Conference

Launch of the Phase 1 South African HIV and TB Investment Case

On Mar 22, 2016 the reports for Phase 1 of the South African HIV and TB Investment Case were launched by the Deputy President during the World TB Day celebrations. HE2RO staff were heavily involved in all aspects of the development of the Investment Case, from devising the analytical framework to reviewing evidence for interventions and enablers to developing the novel optimisation method driving the model analysis to writing the reports. Two of HE2RO's staff will be presenting at the 46th Union World Conference on Lung Health, in Cape Town from 2nd to 6th December 2015. Kamban Hirasen will be presenting on: "Twelve month outcomes of patients initiating drug-resistant tuberculosis treatment at a decentralised outpatient clinic in Johannesburg, South Africa". Denise Evans will be presenting on: "Predictors of mortality in patients diagnosed with preXDR and XDR TB - Results from the South African National TB Programme 2009
